Department at a Glance

Department of Microbiology was founded as a part of the Faculty of Science at Chulalongkorn University in 1975. The department was established to educate undergraduate and graduate students, and conduct research in the area of microbiology, including application of microbiology in the fields of medicine, agriculture, industry and environment. During the past five decades, we have continuously transformed to become one of the leading microbiology departments in Thailand and Asia.

Currently, our department is located on the 13th-20th floor of Maha Vajirunhis  Building at Chulalongkorn University on Phayathai Road in the center heart of Bangkok. We are offering an undergraduate program in Microbiology, Master’s and PhD programs (English program) in  Microbiology and Microbial Technology. There are 17 full-time faculty members in the department, all of which hold the highest degree in their fields. With the diverse areas of faculty interests, we are conducting cutting edge research in bacteriology, mycology, applied microbiology, bioremediation, food microbiology, fermentation technology, microbial genetics, environmental microbiology, immunology and virology.
